Beecroft Sport’s Update February Half term

Whole School:
The whole school continued with their termly sports challenges at break and dinner times, with the aim of getting children more active and engaged in sport. This half term the challenge was the Road To Beijing, where challenges had a Winter Olympics theme. This included hockey and curling style games, which were run and led by our young leaders. All children in KS1 and 2 enjoyed taking part. The young leaders have been learning to plan and coach other children after school with Miss Pinder. They will continue to develop their skills this half term and introduce more playground games, with new equipment they have purchased.

Football
U10 boys played a thrilling match away against Kirkstall, which they narrowly lost 5-4. It was a different experience for the boys, playing a 5 a-side game but they adapted well and scored some excellent goals, with great teamwork.
U11 boys travelled to Kirkstall Leisure centre for their match with St Stephens, to play indoors due to the water-logged pitches. They put in a tough, battling performance but sadly lost the game 3-0. They will be looking to turn this around in the re-match after half term, when we return to playing outside at 9 aside.
The girls’ team again travelled to Carr Manor (25 different girls have now taken part in competitive matches) for their monthly rally. They played another 7 great matches, despite the rain, snow and hail. Although the conditions were not ideal the girls all played with a smile on their face. Their best results were drawing with Weetwood and Brudenell, while they beat Shakespeare 1- 0. Well done to all who took part.
