After studying the features of the Whitby coast in geography and writing an argument about its second holiday homes in English, Year 5 were able to experience the coastal town through a wonderful overnight residential. Although Storm Babet was drawing upon us, we made sure to wrap up warm in our waterproofs!
Thankfully, the rain held off on Thursday afternoon and we hunted for fossils on Whitby Bay, followed by a sandcastle competition. The children even used their knowledge of Whitby culture to produce some highly imaginative pieces! After dinner at our hostel, the children were challenged to work in teams to see who could build the most effective lighthouse. In the evening, we had a terrific talent show before a well-deserved sleep.
On Friday, we walked down the 199 steps on our way to the town, walking along the river and stopping by the gift shops before heading home.
