Dear Parents/Guardian
We are always grateful for your support. We expect all families to support attendance, punctuality and reading.
Attendance and Punctuality
Our attendance to date is excellent 97.7%
Year 6: Year 6 are starting at 8.40am (You will have noticed they are not in the playground).
Getting to school on time: Punctuality: The majority of our parents support our start time of 8.50am (10 minutes to 9). There is, however, a group of families, whose children are regularly late. This means they miss reading and maths activities in class. At 8.50am the gates will be closed. Please bring your child to the front door at reception if you are late. If there is an emergency or family problem, please ring to let us know that your child is going to be late. Lateness is monitored and is on your child’s attendance certificate.
Reading: Being a reader in life is a vital skill. All children need to develop confidence and competence in reading whilst in primary school. Secondary or high school work will become impossible without good reading skills. We hear the news that some primary schools are not helping pupils to become good enough! Again, many, but not a majority of parents at Beecroft listen to their child read, learn new words and read to their child. These pupils are doing well. Those pupils who are behind in their reading are simply not reading enough. From Year 4 doing reading homework with pupils and talking about the harder books and articles is very beneficial.
Please support your child or make an appointment with myself to discuss how you can help.
