Dear Parents

We are now at a very busy time in the school year.

 Winter Fair – Wednesday 27^th November:  This is a very important money raising event organised by Friends at Beecroft (FAB).  We need – ornaments, books, toys, cakes and buns on the day, bottles.  Please support by sending items for the stalls.  Can you set a stall out on Wednesday 27^th  November for 1.15pm?  You don’t have to come to FAB regularly as we need any help from any parents.  Could you go on a stall for part or all of the time from 3.15-5.00 pm?  Please fill in the slip below or ring the office.  Thank you. Dear Parents

Harvest Festival & Open Evening/Day
Thank you for the tremendous support for these events 200 people came to our Harvest. It was a very enjoyable celebration of music and poetry. We raised £106 for the Syrian Appeal. Thank you for all the harvest gifts.

Music Medals
We presented five pupils, who left in summer, with their Associated Board of the Royal School of Music Medals at bronze and silver level for violin, flute and recorder. This is a tremendous achievement. Seventeen more pupils have just taken tests at copper, bronze and silver level and have passed so we will be arranging a presentation before Christmas.

Reading Challenge
As a result of your support for our summer holiday reading challenge, we have been rewarded with a visiting author on the 7th November. Please look in the library as many of our Beecroft pupils have their book reviews on display. Well done!

Half –Term Reading Challenge
We have organised with the libraries, a half-term challenge to read two books. Your child will need to get their reading record stamped with a library stamp, each time they read a book. There will be a prize in school, presented at Family Assembly for those who complete it.
Please help with reading right up to Year 6
I am still concerned that it is not given high priority in some families

Free School Meals
There are still a number of children who are not taking up their entitlement. There are sandwiches, a cooked meal, fruit, cake, salad at every meal.
The lunches are good value and would save you a lot of money. You are welcome to come into school and try them. If you think you are eligible please ring Leeds Revenues and Benefits Service on 0113 222 4404 or visit leeds.gov.uk/schoolmeals.

Parent Governor Ballot
The last date for your vote is Friday 18th October. The vote will be counted by two community governors on Thursday 24th October and the result will be sent by pupil post on Friday 25th October.

Family Assembly
There is no family assembly on Friday 18th October, as we are interviewing.

Parking
Can we respectfully request that when parking near school, entrances to houses are not blocked. Once again we have had distressed residents coming into school. Thank you.

Dear Parents
We are rapidly coming to the end of a very successful year at Beecroft. The year has flown by!
Thank You

There are many thanks to give at the end of this year for all the voluntary contributions to our school.

•FAB (Friends at Beecroft) for all the money raising and support for the school led by Laura Bottrell the chairperson.
•Parents who help in school and with reading on a regular basis and parents who help with maths and individual pupils
•Our community and friends who help every week, Paxton Horticultural, J Richardson, L Forkin who work on reading.
•Governors with Steve Harris the Chair
•Heather. The Baptist Church (and helpers)
•All the parents who support the school policies and attendance, holidays only in school holidays, reading and homework.

Important Dates before the end of term.

No Drama club after 5 July

Wednesday 10 July: Reports out to parents.

An informal chance to look at your child’s work and speak to your child’s class teacher follows the report on Monday 15 July 3:15-5:15pm. If however, you need a detailed consultation please ring to arrange an appointment.

Saturday 13 July: Kirkstall Festival ‘How Green is our Valley’ – Meet at school at 11.00am and on Hesketh Road 11.30am. Year 5 and 6 can attend with your permission independently. All other pupils must be accompanied by parents. There is no supervision once in the grounds of the festival so school accepts no responsibility once the parade finishes in the arena of the festival.

Tuesday 16 July: Pizza Hut if 100% attendance (separate letter) – KS1

Thursday 18 July: Pizza Hut if 100% attendance (separate letter) – KS2

Friday 19 July: Break up for Summer Holiday

Assembly at 2.00pm (no morning assembly). All the school can leave with parents when this finishes.

Year 1 – 6 return on Wednesday 5th September Reception Class half days for the first week 5th – 7th September, full days from Monday 9th September
Nursery back on Monday 9th September

This is high. Well done.  A number of pupils have improved their attendance with noticeable improvements in their work as a result.  Unfortunately, 4 pupils have attendance below 85% and this is persistent absence. Dear Parents
This is the final December newsletter with thanks for all your support and with details for the final two weeks of term.
Key Stage 2 Visit to Oliver at the Grand Theatre This was a most enjoyable experience for Year 3 – 6. We were also complemented by adult members of the audience and staff at The Grand on the pupils’ excellent behaviour.
