Year 3 Trip To Otley

After studying the features of Otley, Year 3 went on a full day trip to explore the town using their mapping skills.

Children were able to observe and identify key features from the ‘Surprise View’ at Otley Chevin. This included quarries, that now contain water and are considered a water source, recreational grounds such as football fields and rural aspects such as farms and fields.

Rev Andy Visit From St George’s Crypt

Beecroft Primary School had a visit from Rev Andy, the Chaplin at St George’s Crypt. He spoke in our weekly collective worship about the importance of donating to people in need. We have been collecting food as part of our harvest festival and raising money through enterprises to donate to St George’s Crypt. Rev Andy told us a story about when his father-in-law cycled 100 miles. Once his father-in-law completed his 100 miles, he returned to his camp to find that the only food he had was one tin of cold beans. Rev Andy explained that this one tin of beans was the best meal he had ever eaten as he was exhausted and starving. Children learned that it is important to donate what we can as even a small amount can change somebodies’ life.

Year 4 Malham Trip

On Thursday 14th September 2023, Year 4 visited Malham in The Yorkshire Dales as part of their geography topic on rivers. The source of the river, Malham Tarn, is situated above the village of Malham and the pupils observed many features in the upper course of a river as they walked around the area surrounding the village. The day started with a hike up the side of Malham Cove (without too much complaining!) to reach the limestone paving at the top. We looked out across the amazing views to see the valleys in the landscape created by rivers. Along our route we further observed v-shaped valleys and visited the waterfalls Gordale Scar and Janet’s Foss. We were mesmerised by the beauty of Janet’s Foss and the dramatic scenes at Gordale Scar where we even saw someone climbing the rocky scars above the waterfall! Walking back along Gordale Beck, the pupils were able to put their geography knowledge and skills from the classroom into practice as they observed and explained to each other erosion in the streams and spotted human and physical features including drystone walls and stiles. The visit was thoroughly enjoyed by all!
